I graduated with BSC (Hons) in Speech and Language Therapy from the University of Wales Institute, Cardiff in 1997.
Following graduation, I worked for the NHS as a general paediatric Speech and Language Therapist in community clinics and special schools.
In 2000 I volunteered with Voluntary Services Overseas (VSO), where I spent 2 years as a Speech and Language Therapist in a multi-disciplinary early detection centre in Bandung, Indonesia. I was privileged over this time to work with and train some incredible people. I also developed my clinical skills working with a wide range of children.

On my return in 2002 I started working at a leading charity for children with brain injury and neuro disability. I was part of the team there for 16 years, the final 3 as Professional Lead for Speech and Language Therapy.

In this post I developed specialist skills in working with children who have speech, language, communication and eating and drinking needs as a result of a range of neurological impairments including acquired brain injury.

I have had extensive post graduate training including but not limited to:
-
Post basic and advanced dysphagia
-
Working with children who have a tracheostomy
-
Sensory Modality Assessment and Rehabilitation Techniques (SMART) for adults in a disorder of consciousness.

I have been fortunate to work with incredible families as part of a large multi-disciplinary team which has cemented my view that the best results are when a team works together to maximise a child's potential within a familiar and meaningful context.
Other skills and experience include:
-
Provision of internal and external training
-
Leading in service development and policies
-
Supervision of the Speech and Language Therapy Team
-
Provision of training packages overseas in India and Abu Dhabi
-
Chairing and case management
